| The
staff at Frederick Sport and
Spine Clinic, Inc. is truly a team, working
hard together with your best interest in mind. Our
front office staff will handle your calls, seek authorization
for your treatments and assist you with the necessary
paperwork. Your Physical Therapist (PT) will evaluate
your condition and discuss the treatment plan that
will be designed to reach your goals. Subsequent treatments
will be under the guidance of your PT, but you will
also be introduced to our excellent PT Technicians
who will assist with treatment set-up and assist with
routine follow-up of specific exercises. You may also
work with our Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA), who
will be able to advance your exercise program and
home exercises.

Dr.
Mark Acierno, PT, DPT, OCS
Mark earned his Bachelor of Science degree in
Biomedical Engineering (1987) and a Master of
Science degree in Physical Therapy (1990) from
Boston University before completing his Doctorate
in January 2005, also from Boston University.
Mark practiced primarily in outpatient facilities
for 7 years in California before moving to Frederick.
He opened Frederick Sport and Spine Clinic,
Inc., in 1999 and expanded to include Middletown
Sport and Spine Clinic, LLC, in 2005.
Mark’s
expertise is in Sports Physical Therapy and
he has a specific interest in shoulder dysfunction.
He is Board Certified in Orthopedic Physical
Therapy by the APTA and is currently the Physical
Therapist for the Frederick Keys, the Baltimore
Orioles’ Class “A” minor league
baseball team. From 1994-96, Mark was affiliated
with both the Men’s ATP Tennis Tour and
the Champion’s Tour while in California.
He has treated athletes of all levels and from
a wide variety of sports. He is active with
the elite gymnasts at the Frederick Gymnastics
Club, the Maryland State Champions for 2003.
Mark
is a current member of the APTA and served as
the Western District Chairman for Maryland.
He is the proud father of twins, Dominick and
Siena and husband to wife, Jodene. |

Dr.
Lisa Houck, PT, DPT, OCS, MTC:
Lisa
completed her Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy
(DPT) in October of 2004 from the University
of Saint Augustine in Saint Augustine, Florida.
Her undergraduate Physical Therapy degree (PT),
completed in 1998, was attained from Daemen
College in Amherst, New York. Lisa is a member
of the APTA.
Lisa
is a Frederick Native. She has several
years of experience working with a broad
spectrum of patients in both in-patient
and out-patient settings. Her passion surrounds
Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy which
is a hands-on approach to traditional physical
therapy. She underwent rigorous training
in these areas and has earned specialty
certifications in both Manual Physical
Therapy (MTC) and Clinical Orthopedics
(OCS). This extensive training provides
her with expertise in treating all orthopedic
related in injuries. |

Mary
Thorsen,
PT:
Mary received her Physical Therapy Degree in 1989 from California State University at Long Beach. She provided services at a formal rehabilitation hospital for one year in California and has provided out-patient rehabilitation for sixteen years in Baltimore, Carroll, and Frederick Counties to various patient populations. In addition, Mary has performed Ergomed pre-work screenings for area businesses to ensure safe placement of new employees and employees returning from work related injuries.
Recently,
Mary has completed coursework in aquatic
therapy which is a therapy utilized for
an array of conditions. She has a particular
interest in treating patients with pain
and headaches originating from the cervical
spine as well as treating pain associated
with lumbar strain.
Mary
has been an American Physical Therapy Association
member since 1988. |

Jane
Klink,
PT:
Jane
graduated with a Physical Therapy degree from University
of Delaware in 1989. Since then, she has accrued
18 years of experience treating patients of all
ages and levels and function. She has worked in
many settings including acute care, outpatient
orthopedics, and home health care.
As
a generalist in the field of Physical Therapy,
she has completed coursework in a variety
of areas with a special interest in shoulder
and postural dysfunction. Jane joined the
Frederick Sport and Spine team in October
of 2005 and works from our Middletown office.
She is a current member of the APTA. |

Wray
Pianta, MMSc:
Wray
recieved a Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy
from Ithaca College in 1978 and a Masters of Medical
Science in Orthopedic Physical Therapy from Emory
University in 1987. Before relocating to Frederick,
she was an Anatomy and Physical Therapy instructor
at Emory University in 1998.
Wray
has over 20 years of clinical experience
in inpatient and outpatient settings. She
specializes in conditions of the neck and
spine, but has interests in all areas of
Orthopedics. Her presence to our clinical
staff supports the high quality of care Frederick
Sport and Spine Clinic patients already receive.
She is a current APTA member. |

Carrie
Whipp, PTA:
Carrie
graduated from Carroll Community College in 2000
with an Associate's Degree in Health Sciences.
Having practiced in the outpatient orthopedic setting
for the last six years, she is well versed in the
treatment of an array of orthopedic ailments. She
has completed numerous continuing education courses
in myofascial release, breast cancer recovery and
treatment of chronic pain. She enjoys all facets
of being a Physical Therapisst Assistant, but takes
particular interest in manual therapy.
As
a Physical Therapist Assistant, Carrie is
responsible for treating you according to
your Physical Therapist's established plan
of care. This task is challenging as our
clinical staff is very diverse; however,
she continually exceeds expectations in quality
of care and patient satisfaction. Carrie
has completed aquatic therapy training and
spends a great deal of her time treating
patients in our SwimEx
Aquatic Therapy Pool. She is a current member of the APTA. |
